Welsh Conservative Assembly candidate for Clwyd West Darren Millar is concerned by latest figures which show that Clwyd West is lagging behind other parts of the UK and Wales in being able to access superfast broadband.
Darren is disappointed that the constituency is only 75.5% Superfast, leaving one in four households and businesses in Clwyd West struggling with slower speeds.
He said:
“Broadband connectivity and the need for high speed communication is one of the issues that has been repeatedly raised with me on the campaign trail.
“People in Conwy and Denbighshire have been crying out for Superfast Broadband for a long time, and while BT have made many promises regarding the timescale for its delivery, many of these have been broken. It is unacceptable that one in four households and businesses in Clwyd West are still not able to access high speed broadband services under the Superfast scheme, this is a much higher proportion that other parts of the UK and Wales.
“The need for households and businesses to have access to next generation broadband in the twenty first century is increasingly important. Lack of access can be detrimental for a child's education and can severely disadvantage local businesses. More than ever, high speed communications are crucial in the fast-moving and changing world that we work and live in.
“Too many businesses and households have gone without Superfast broadband for far too long in Conwy and Denbighshire and it is crucial that action is taken to ensure that people in all parts of the constituency are connected to this fast service as soon as possible.
“Digital infrastructure is transforming our way of life and the way we do business - we can not afford to let Clwyd West lag behind.”
