Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has launched a petition and Facebook Page in protest against Conwy County Council’s plans to reduce the frequency of bin collections.
Officers have confirmed that they are considering reducing collections from fortnightly to once every three or four weeks.
Darren said:
“These plans are causing great concern for local residents and have more to do with meeting council efficiency targets rather than what is best for communities.
“Conwy Council need to realise that simply cutting fortnightly bin collections and making them every three or four weeks does not solve anything. Some people will just let rubbish build up and what we will see is an increase in rodent and seagull populations, flytipping, odours and litter. – it will not necessarily lead to an increase in recycling.
“Reducing bin collections harms the environment fuelling fly-tipping and rips off local residents by cutting the services they pay for in council tax. It’s the last thing an area which relies on tourism needs.
“I know a lot of people feel as strongly as I do about the Council’s plans and I urge them to sign my petition and back the Facebook campaign so that together we can safeguard our fortnightly collections and ensure our streets are kept clean. Everybody wants to live somewhere they can feel proud of.”
