The catering department of one of Wales’ biggest hospitals needs to improve its hygiene standards, according to an inspection in March 2015.
The hospital’s department was graded 2 – improvement necessary – and was rated ‘poor’ for food hygiene and safety, which means major non-compliance with statutory food safety regulations.
By law, all food outlets must display their food rating so consumers can make an informed choice.
Darren Millar AM, Shadow Minister for Health, said, “Hospitals and schools, which cater for children and vulnerable people should be setting an example in food hygiene standards for others to follow.
“For a major hospital’s catering department to get such a low rating and be marked as ‘poor’ for food hygiene and safety is very worrying and these failings must be swiftly addressed to reassure patients.
“Hospital bosses must act to ensure all hospital catering facilities are not only fully compliant with basic food hygiene legislation, but promote best practice to ensure the highest standards of safe food production for patients, staff and visitors.”
