Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar commended the work being done by foodbanks across Wales when he spoke at a Trussel Trust Conference in Towyn on Monday.
Nine foodbanks - Abergele, Anglesey, Caernarfon, Barmouth, Vale of Clwyd, Flintshire, Wrexham, Welshpool and Llandrindod Wells - were represented at the Conference which took place at North Coast Church.
Speaking at the Conference Darren said:
“Food banks are an expression of something that has been going on in the Church for ever, namely feeding hungry. There is so much great work being done by charities, church organisations and businesses in the food bank committee. I would like to commend you all for the excellent work you and your volunteers do in the communities that you serve. Food banks make a vital contribution to people in crisis and I believe that should be praised.”
The first food bank opened in Salisbury in 2000 and there are now over 300 food banks in the UK. The Trussell Trust, a Christian charity, is the UK’s largest food bank network.
Darren, who is a regular supporter of Trussel Trust foodbanks in his constituency, added:
“Foodbanks do a fantastic job supporting people who find themselves in a desperate situation, but wouldn’t be able to carry out their vital work without the generosity of the public. I urge people to continue giving to help those less fortunate than themselves.”
