A public meeting has been arranged to discuss local resident’s concerns over the future of Ysgol Llanbedr.
In a meeting at the beginning of June, Denbighshire’s Cabinet agreed to proceed to formal consultation on the proposal to close the 150 year old school on August 31st 2016.
The original proposal was to close the school on August 31st last year, but at the end of January, the Education Minister, Huw Lewis AM, refused the proposal, much to the delight of parents, pupils and staff. However within just weeks of that decision Denbighshire County Council dropped the bombshell that it would again be considering closure. It is the first school in Wales to undergo a double consultation on its future.
Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has been asked to Chair a public meeting to discuss the latest developments and a way forward. The meeting will take place at Llanbedr DC Village Hall on Friday 10th July at 6pm.
He said:
“The uncertainty over whether Ysgol Llanbedr will close has prevailed for some two years now and it has undoubtedly had a significant impact on the wellbeing of pupils and staff at the school.
“The decision to proceed to seek a further consultation on closure is an insult to pupils and parents and we will not give up the fight to secure the future of the school. The meeting will give locals an opportunity to air their views and discuss a way forward.”
Under the plans, Denbighshire Council says that existing pupils will be transferred to Ysgol Borthyn, Ruthin (subject to parental preference).
