Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has welcomed news that two Ruthin projects are amongst 16 across Wales set to benefit from Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) awards worth over £3.5 million.
Both Ysgol Borthyn and Ruthin Community Group are to receive grants from this latest round of National Lottery money.
Ysgol Borthyn will receive £5,000 for a 6 month project focusing on people’s living memories of Ruthin, whilst Ruthin Community Group have been awarded £9,000 for an eight month intergenerational project exploring the effects of the First World War on Ruthin, and to commemorate the battle of Mametz Wood.
Darren said:
“I am delighted that these two projects are to benefit from this latest round of funding. Heritage provides the roots of our identities and enriches the quality of our lives and everyone should have the chance to explore and look after it.
“It is always pleasing to hear of young people getting involved in such projects and learning about the past. I’m sure pupils at Ysgol Borthyn will have a really enjoyable time finding our more about the history of Ruthin.”
He added:
“The Ruthin Community Group project sounds very interesting. It’s so important that we remember the impact of World War 1 one hundred years on and its effect on the local area. I am also pleased that the funding will go towards commemorating the battle of Mametz Wood, which began on July 7th 2016.
“I wish both groups the best of luck with their projects.”
Since 1994, the Heritage Lottery Fund have awarded £6.8billion to over 39,000 projects.
