Clwyd West AM Darren Millar is concerned that changes made last month to visiting times at Glan Clwyd Hospital has resulted in major parking problems at the Bodelwyddan site.
Darren raised the matter with the Chief Executive of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB), Mary Burrows, after constituents told him of the problems they are having finding parking at the hospital since the health board made visiting the same time for all wards at the beginning of last month. Previously wards had different visiting times.
Darren said:
"The changes mean that now everyone turns up at the same time to see their loved ones, putting major pressure on parking.
"Patients look forward to their hourly visits from family and friends twice each day, but some are finding their visits are being cut short because it is taking their visitors so long to find a parking space.
"The health board have said that the changes were introduced following extensive evaluation of ward rounds and ward efficiency to record the least disruptive time to clinical care across the wards, which is all well and good, but parking should have been taken into consideration.
"Parking at Glan Clwyd Hospital has always been a problem and these changes have made it much worse. I am pleased that the Chief Executive of BCUHB has acknowledged the current situation and I hope that the initiatives which she informs me are being developed to alleviate the car parking pressures are introduced soon for the sake of both the patients and their loved ones."
