Commenting on the publication of a report recommending that the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board maintain consultant-led maternity services at each of the three main hospitals in North Wales, Clwyd West AM Darren Millar, said:
“This is a victory for common sense and I am pleased that the Health Board has finally listened to the concerns of campaigners, clinicians and the public right across North Wales who opposed these plans.
“The uncertainty surrounding the future of these services has been extremely unsettling for staff, mums-to-be and their families and I’m glad that we can finally put this matter to bed.
“I look forward to working with the Board as it seeks to support the development of these services and establish a new regional neonatal centre at Glan Clwyd Hospital.”
Vale of Clwyd AM Ann Jones, said:
“This is very welcome news indeed. The Health Board’s proposals to suspend services were unacceptable and it was clear that another solution had to be found.
“It is now imperative that the Health Board cracks on with the development of a new Sub Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Centre at Glan Clwyd Hospital to help underpin services and demonstrate its commitment to the site.
She added:
“I want to pay tribute to campaigners across the region for their work in securing this result.”
