Welsh Conservative Assembly candidate for Clwyd West Darren Millar has revealed that his party’s manifesto for the Assembly elections pledges to legislate to ensure councils collect residual waste no less frequently than fortnightly.
It also pledges to protect public health and deter fly tipping.
Darren, who has been leading a campaign to protect fortnightly bin collections in Conwy, said:
“The campaign to protect waste collection services highlighted how strongly residents feel about three or four weekly bin collections, with one of the major concerns being that reducing the frequency of bin collections may lead to problems with litter, fly-tipping and pests.
“The last thing that tourist destinations like North Wales need is an increase in vermin such as mice, rats and seagulls.
“We recognise that this is an issue which is of great concern to many households throughout North Wales and ours is the only manifesto to pledge to legislate to ensure councils collect residual waste no less frequently than fortnightly.
“It is crucial that we protect our environment by safeguarding fortnightly collections. Nobody want to live in neighborhoods covered in litter.”
