With roadworks on the A55 causing traffic chaos, Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has blasted the Welsh Government for failing to address the capacity problems on this main artery into North Wales and called on those in power to give it the investment it needs.
Darren is concerned that poor management of the roadworks on the Kneeshaw Lupton bridge at Llanddulas, which are due to last five weeks, is causing serious damage to the reputation of North Wales as a tourism destination and will undermine the local economy. He has urged the Welsh Government “to get a grip”.
He said:
"I've been inundated with complaints from constituents.
"People can't get to work, children are missing hours at school and the tailbacks and traffic are damaging the economy and reputation of the area.
"Motorists wouldn't mind if these works were going to deliver a major upgrade to the A55, but they aren't. Once the work is completed there will be no extra capacity to deal with the problems that already occurred before they were started.
"The A55 already has the unpopular accolade of being one of the worst congested roads in the UK so, instead of all the focus on roads in South Wales, we need the Welsh Government to get to grips with the capacity problems on this route once and for all and give it the investment it needs."
