Two politicians praised volunteers who are supporting health and social care in their community at the annual meeting of a charity which assists them last week.
Shadow Welsh Health Minister and Clwyd West AM Darren Millar and Vale of Clwyd MP James Davies spoke at the AGM of the North East Wales branch of Attend Cymru on Friday.
Attend Cymru represent volunteers giving their time in health and social care. Last year nationwide the charity’s volunteers gave over 4.3 million hours of their time, equal to over £26 million at minimum wage, and raised over £41 million for health and social care where they live.
Darren said:
“Volunteering has a powerful role to play in our health and social care, and Attend Cymru work hard to find ways to make that role relevant and impactful. They enable people to contribute to their own wellbeing and to volunteer to support strong health and social care where they live.
“As well as running their membership service, they have also developed a full range of ways to improve volunteering in health and social care including running Attend projects and training.
“It was great to meet all those involved in the charity including the many volunteers at Friday’s meeting.”
James Davies MP said: “For over 60 years Attend has been helping people across the UK create healthy communities. They do tremendous work and I commend all those involved. The work volunteers do is very valuable to the people and organisations they support and should never be underestimated.”
