Clwyd West MS Darren Millar has praised the work of NHS chaplains for the support they have provided those who have lost loved ones and been affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking in the Senedd yesterday, Darren said with many people having not been able to say final goodbyes or be at the bedside of loved ones at the time of their death due to visiting restrictions, the role of NHS chaplains has been more important than ever.
Thanking them, he said:
“We've seen significant numbers of people who have experienced bereavement as a result of the coronavirus and, because of the pandemic, many people haven't even had the opportunity to say their final goodbyes to their loved ones at the bedside in the way that they might have been able to at other times. This has been very traumatic for many families and NHS staff.
“Bereavement services in particular are something that many hospital chaplains are able to provide to people, as first responders.
“I've always appreciated the support that the Welsh Government has given to NHS chaplaincy services, and would urge everyone to take the opportunity to thank those chaplains across Wales that have done such important work at what I'm sure has been a very difficult time for them and those that they've been supporting.”
