Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has expressed disappointment that the Welsh Government has failed to support a group of students from Coleg Llandrillo in Rhos-on-Sea in their bid to have free bus travel extended to students under 25 in full time education.
At the beginning of July the students presented their case to the Assembly’s Petitions Committee, which decided to refer the proposal to the Welsh Government.
At a meeting of the Petitions Committee today, it was announced that the Welsh Transport Minister will not be supporting the petition and will instead be encouraging the students to take up the issue with Welsh Councils and further education colleges.
Darren Millar AM said:
"I have been working with these students to try to persuade the Welsh Government to extend free bus travel to students under 25 in full time education and I am therefore extremely disappointed that the Minister has decided to pass the buck yet again.
"They had a strong case and put a great deal of hard work into their campaign and presenting their proposal, it is a shame their proposals have not received the support they deserved."
