Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar will be referring Conwy Council’s plans to close public toilets to the Older People's Commissioner to ask her to look at the impact this would have on older residents.
Darren has been involved in campaigns to keep conveniences in Rhos-on-Sea and Llanfair TH open and is keen to ensure other public lavatories across the county remain open.
He is particularly concerned about the effect closures would have on older people in the area.
Speaking after raising the matter with the First Minister in the Senedd Darren said:
"Many older people in my constituency are concerned about Conwy County Borough Council’s plans to close public lavatories.
"Public conveniences provide an important service to older people, not to mention all other members of the local community as well as visitors. It’s essential we safeguard their provision."
"Whilst I appreciate the budget difficulties that the Council is facing, it is important that decisions which are made have proper regard to the needs of older people, many of whom will need more frequent access to public conveniences due to medical issues.
"As the champion for older people in Wales, I have asked the Older People’s Commissioner to look at the proposals."
